Strategies for Serenity: Almost Free!
-
Sitting in traffic in downtown Los Angeles this afternoon, I multi-tasked by illegally using my cellphone while driving to call back the four people who’d left me messages while simultaneously reviewing notes for a meeting later in the day. In a spare moment, I wondered, “Why the hell am I so stressed out today?”Sometimes, I ask dumb questions.
So, I turned to one of my very favorite books (after I got out of the car, I’ll have you know!): “The Anywhere, Anytime Chill Guide: 77 Simple Strategies for Serenity” by Kate Hanley. This lovely little book combines nutrition, yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques to find simple corrective solutions to daily stressful situations. Liiiiike what to do while sitting in traffic on the 405! Or, what do about anxiety centered around an upcoming meeting. OR, what to do when you’re stuck in traffic, late for a meeting with an aggressive boss on a project you’ve procrastinated on during a bad hair day after getting dumped AND you have a hangover. And the hiccups. I’m telling you, there are answers in this Mind/Body Bible for everything! I can’t recommend this book enough.
Which is why I think it’s worth $14.95. (Did I mention the recipe for the banana milk shake on page 135?) You may disagree. Fair enough. You can get it on Amazon.com for $11.21. Or, save some more moolah and get it from an independent dealer NEW for $4.89. Get a few for your friends, while you’re at it. OR, get it used (books are better well-loved, right?) and spend only $3.10. Get a few for all of your friends! Holy Moly, stress-free living never cost so little! (If you’re a techie with a flair for gadgets that don’t require page-turning, the Kindle version is only $9.99. Oh jeez, it just gets better.)
If you hate waiting for snail mail literature, then seriously stop procrastinating and go get a Borders Rewards card. It’s like they’re giving stuff away. Every week, they send out coupons and great deals, so you never end up paying full price and you can walk out with your book that day. Seriously. Go NOW!
Still not good enough? Then go check out Kate Hanley’s website, www.msmindbody.com, and catch all of her greatest tips for free. There’s even an excerpt from the book here. Now all you need is that Banana Milk Shake and you are set. Aaaaah. I don’t even care about my bad hair day….
